Viola Davis one of the most acclaimed actresses of her generation. She was born to very humble beginnings and had a poverty-stricken childhood. She was born in St. Matthews, South Carolina on August 25, 1965, and grew up with her parents and three other siblings in Rhode Island. Her interest in acting and theatre started while she was studying in Central Falls High School. After school, she graduated from Rhode Island College with a major in theatre. She attended the Julliard School where she studied performing arts for four years. As of 2018, Viola Davis’ net worth is $12 million.

Davis started her acting career by performing on stage in “Everybody’s Ruby” for which she won an Obie Award in 1999. She started her theatre, film and television career simultaneously. She started her film career with “The Substance of Fire” (1996) and continued to work in films such as “Doubt” (2008) for which she won nominations for Best Supporting Actress from the Golden Globe, Academy Awards, and SAG. Davis appeared as Tonya in the play “King Hedley II” (2001) for which she won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play. She also appeared in television shows such as “Law & Order” where she had a recurring role.

Davis continued to act in many films such as “Out of Sight” (1998), “Solaris” (2002), “Traffic” (2000) and “Syriana” (2005). She appeared in a small but memorable role in “Doubt” (2008) which won received nominations for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and a Golden Globe. Davis won a second Tony Award for her portrayal of Rose Maxson in the play “Fences” (2010). The same year she starred as Dr. Minerva in “It’s Kind of a Funny Story”.     In “The Help” (2011), Davis plays the role of a maid in Mississippi in the 1960’s. She garnered critical acclaim for her portrayal and received two Screen Actors Guild Awards and nominations from the Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, and BAFTA Award.

Davis was cast as the lead character in “How to Get Away with Murder” (2014) for which she won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. She also appeared in films like “Blackhat” (2015), “Lila & Eve” (2015), “Suicide Squad” (2016) and “Windows” (2018). Davis acted in the film version of “Fences” (2016) and won her third Academy Award nomination. She went into history by being the first black woman to win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress, the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role.

Her films for this year include “Small Great things” along with Julia Roberts and “The Woman King” along with Lupita Nyong’o. Davis received her star on the Walk of Fame on January 5, 2017.
