Violet Evergarden Movie: Premiere Date, Plot, Characters

Kyoto Animation Studio—also referred to as KyoAni—is known for creating some of the most visually stunning anime that have surreal backgrounds and the most vivid colors in their palette. In the past, along with ‘Clannad‘, ‘Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!‘, the Studio has been involved with some of the best known slice-of-life anime shows. However, out of the plethora of successful anime shows that they have created over the years, ‘Violet Evergarden‘ still remains to be one of their most influential works.

Every aspect of the anime literally pours out emotions and leaves with you with a lesson or two about life. If you’re looking for an anime that will make you bawl your eyes out, this is the anime you should go for. Violet Evergarden Movie Release Date: When will it premiere?

Violet Evergarden‘ Season 1, which has a total of 13 episodes, first premiered on January 11, 2018, and went on till April 5, 2018. This season was then followed by another special episode, which released on July 4, 2018. Just recently, on the official Youtube channel of Kyoto Animation, an official teaser of its highly anticipated sequel movie premiered.

The film was originally slated to release on January 10, 2020. But mostly due to the arson attacks on the Kyoto Animation studio on July 18, the film was later slated to open in Japan on April 24, 2020. Unfortunately, according to its official website, it has been further postponed because of the COVID-19 outbreak and no new release date has been set. According to reports, the film will be helmed by director Taichi Ishidate, who was also involved with the original series. The character designs and chief animation will be done by Akiko Takase.

Violet Evergarden English Dub:

The English dub of the first season of ‘Violet Evergarden’ is available on Netflix. We will let you know about the movie’s dubbed version as soon it releases.

Violet Evergarden Plot:

In the aftermath of the Great War, which almost lasted for four long years, the continent of Telesis begins to flourish again. Somewhere amidst the chaos of the war, was Violet Evergarden, a tough soldier, trained solely to destroy enemy forces. After the brutal last leg of the war, Violet finds herself on a hospital bed with nothing but the last words of the only person who was close to her. And to her dismay, she has no clue what those words mean.

After finally recovering from her injuries, she decides to start working as an “Auto Memory Doll” and with this, she sets out on a journey to find the true purpose of her life. As she begins to transcribe the deepest thoughts and feelings of others on paper, she not only transforms the lives of her clients but also liberates herself from her past life and learns what it is like to be human.

Violet Evergarden, since childhood, was trained to become a tough soldier who could easily decimate her enemies. But after the war comes to an end, she feels lost. She tries holding on to the last words of the only man she was ever close to, unfortunately for her, she has no clue what the words truly mean. She later ends up in the CH Postal Services and something about the idea of becoming an “Auto Memory Doll” really intrigues her. With her life heading in a whole new direction now, she embarks on an adventure of a lifetime that teaches her a lot more than she could’ve asked for.

Before starting off as an “Auto Memory Doll” at the Postal Services, on the outside, Violet seems to be extremely withdrawn and cold towards the world around her. Of course, like every other human being, she has feelings and emotions. But her understanding of these seems to be very different from that of a normal person. And though she never intentionally sets off on a journey towards self-discovery, her job at the Postal Service somehow aligns with her destiny and sets her on a path towards finding the true meaning of her life. With every letter that she inscribes for her clients, she evokes a new kind of feeling within her. In the end, after truly understanding the words of her lover, she decides to move on ahead with life and accepts things as they come.

Gilbert Bougainvillea

Gilbert Bougainvillea, a major in the Leidenschaftlich Army, belongs to an aristocratic family. He really admires Violet, but because of his identity as a soldier, he forced to keep all of his feelings to himself. As a memento, he gifts her an emerald brooch which has the exact same color as his eyes.

The recent teaser of the series does not really reveal much but, with its music and serene visuals, it does invoke feelings of nostalgia for those who are familiar with the KyoAni’s masterpieces. You can watch it here:
