You know that the holiday season is on when even the biggest online streamers gets into the festive mood. Like all other leading platforms, Netflix, the streaming giant, has a huge catalog of movies and shows with a holiday theme. And if you are looking for a romantic-drama that you puts you right into the holiday feel-good vibe then ‘Virgin River’, a December 2019 release, is the show for you.

‘Virgin River’, a romantic series, has been created by Sue Tenney. Tenney is best known for shows like ‘Good Witch‘ and ‘7th Heaven’. ‘Virgin River’ revolves around a young woman, Melinda Monroe, who has recently shifted to a small, eponymous town in California. The story is loosely based on the novel series of the same name, authored by Robyn Carr.

The series, after its release, was well-received by fans. Now the question arises: will there be a ‘Virgin River’ season 2? We will delve into that question but first, let’s quickly look into the details of the show.

Virgin River Cast: Who’s in it?

Alexandra Breckenridge plays the lead character of Melinda Monroe. Alexandra, in the past, has starred in a few comedy movies like ‘She’s the Man’ and ‘Big Fat Liar’. She is later seen as Jessie Anderson in ‘The Walking Dead’ and as Sophie in ‘This is Us’.

Martin Henderson, best known for his performance in ‘The Ring’ and as Dr. Riggs in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, plays the character of Jack Sheridan. Jack is the neighbor of Monroe and also her potential love interest. Tim Matheson, best known for his role in ‘National Lampoon’s Animal House’, plays the character of Dr. Mullins. ‘Cross My Heart’ alum Annette O’Toole plays the role of Hope McCrea, the mayor of the Virgin River.

Apart from these main leads, the show also includes many supporting characters such as Jenny Cooper as Joey Barnes, Melinda’s elder sister; David Cubitt as Calvin, chosen leader of the illegal pot fields; Lexa Doig as Page Lassiter, a local entrepreneur and baker; Daniel Gillies as Mark, a surgeon and Melinda’s ex-lover; Lauren Hammersley as Charmaine Roberts, a charming hairstylist; Benjamin Hollingsworth as Dan Brady, an ex-marine; Colin Lawrence as John Middleton, Jack’s best friend; Ian Tracey as Jimmy, and Trevor Lerner as Bert Gordon.

Virgin River Plot: What is it about?

Melinda Monroe is running away from her painful past and all her problems. In order to do so, she accepts an ad, which says that a nurse practitioner is required in the small town named Virgin River. The ad also guarantees a beautiful cabin, where she can live for free.

Everything is well until Melinda packs her bag and reaches her destination, leaving Los Angeles far behind. The beautiful cabin that she was promised is actually a disaster. With bird nests lying around in the oven and no proper furniture to call that space home, Melinda wonders what exactly did she get herself into. Though, she is welcomed by the mayor and assured that the place will get better in no time.

It turns out, the job that she applied for is not as easy as it looked, the reason being the head doctor. Dr. Mullins is not looking forward to working with anyone, including Mel. He might seem adamant about it but Mel is not ready to give in to his temperament.

It initially seemed that living in a small town, away from home would be the solution to Melinda’s entire problems. Little did she know that adjusting in the Virgin River is anything but easy. With almost half a mind to declare defeat, she meets with a ray of hope in Jack Sheridan. Jack Sheridan understands how difficult it is to start a fresh life from scratch as he too, had moved to the town after his marine days were over. He tries to help Melinda in all possible ways, to make her feel at home. From helping her fix her house to a fun baseball game, Jack is all keen to make Melinda continue her stay at the Virgin River.

‘Virgin River’ is filled with emotions, great characters, and an engaging story-line. Season 1 chronicles the multiple ups and downs in Mel’s life and ends on a rather unexpected cliffhanger — an arc we expect will be addressed in the next season.

Virgin River Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?

‘Virgin River’ season 1 premiered on December 6, 2019, on Netflix. All the 10 episodes of the show dropped on the same day.

Now, as far as another season goes, we already know that the Virgin River novel series consists of 20 books. So when writer Robyn Carr was asked about potential seasons, she wholeheartedly agreed, replying, “Yeah, absolutely!”. She even added that the show could “go on for years. We could grow old together.”

Well, gear up for some more amazing news. ‘Virgin River’ was already renewed for a second installment, prior to its season 1 premiere. Filming began on September 9, 2019, and wraps up on December 17, 2019. So, we would not be wrong to say that another season will soon be released. And if everything falls in place, ‘Virgin River’ season 2 is most likely to premiere sometime in June 2020.
