When Will Fruits Basket Season 3 Come Out?

Some anime series never die. When it first premiered in the mid-aughts, the first ‘Fruits Basket’ adaptation was widely successful and rightfully landed its place among the best shoujo anime of all time. Almost two decades after its release, its reboot was announced, and for obvious reasons, most fans were a little apprehensive about it. However, to everyone’s surprise, the reboot of ‘Fruits Basket’ has turned out to be better than the original series. Not only that, but at times, even the original manga pales out compared to it.

Unfortunately, all good things must end. After a very satisfying run of 50 episodes in its first two seasons, ‘Fruits Basket’ is now heading towards its end game. If you have been following the series all this while and you’re wondering when its third season will come out, we have some good news for you in the next section.

Fruits Basket Season 3 Release Date: When will it premiere?

After being adapted into a 26-episode series in 2001, ‘Fruits Basket’ received a reboot in 2019. Comprising 12 episodes, the first season of the reboot premiered on April 6, 2019, and finished airing on September 21, 2019. The reboot got a very positive response from fans due to which it was renewed for another season, which released on April 7, 2020, and ended on September 22, 2020.

Fans of the series would be delighted to know that ‘Fruits Basket’ Season 3 is scheduled to release sometime in 2021. Although its final release window has not been announced, we expect it to come out in Summer 2021, considering the release schedule of its first two seasons.

If we compare the reboot with the original manga, season 2 ends somewhere around volume 16. Since the manga has 23 published volumes, the creators of the series still have seven volumes to work with. Considering the amount of source material content left, we expect season 3 to have 25 episodes like the first two seasons. Other than that, it has been announced that the third season will air on TV Tokyo in 2021, and it is licensed under Funimation. TMS Entertainment Studio (‘Teasing Master Takagi-san‘, ‘Megalo Box‘) is again responsible for its animation, and Yoshihide Ibata (‘Haikyuu,’ ‘Kill la Kill‘) is directing it. Any other confirmed news regarding the anime’s release will be updated in this article. Till then, you can check out other similar shoujo anime.
