With no gimmicks, no over-the-top humor, and no stereotypical characters, ‘Yesterday wo Utatte’ walks you through the daily lives of its flawed yet utterly real characters. Even its storyline isn’t too complex. It is simply driven by the past of these characters which still seems to linger in the back of their heads along with all the unnecessary snags of the future that they keep bothering themselves with. For the most part, the anime remains silent, and instead of only using its dialogues, it portrays a lot more using the action of its characters. Clearly, considering how grounded it is, ‘Yesterday wo Utatte’ is not for everyone. Even so, once you start associating yourself with its pitifully beautiful characters, there is no turning back from it.
As you may already know, the first season of ‘Yesterday wo Utatte’ has now ended. For those who are curious to know what the future holds for this modern coming-of-age series, here’s everything you need to know about ‘Yesterday wo Utatte’ Season 2.
Yesterday wo Utatte Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?
‘Sing Yesterday for Me’ season 1 premiered on April 5, 2020, and with a total of 12 episodes, it finished airing on June 21, 2020. Animated by Doga Kobo Studio (‘New Game‘, ‘Gabriel DropOut‘), the first season of ‘Yesterday wo Utatte’ ends on a very strange note. One can neither label it as a major cliffhanger nor does it conclude all the underlying plot points of the season. Unfortunately, even though the conclusion of the anime leaves some room for another season, it seems very less likely that ‘Yesterday wo Utatte’ will ever be renewed. One big reason behind that is the fact that the anime almost jumps to the conclusion of its original manga in its final moments.
Initially, ‘Sing Yesterday for Me’ was scheduled to have a total of 18 episodes which would completely adapt all 11 volumes of the original manga series. But reportedly, the additional 6 episodes that were supposed to be a part of this season were later split throughout its 12-episode runtime. Furthermore, even its manga series was wrapped up in 2015 after its 11th volume was released. So we can’t really expect the author of the manga to produce any new content. Thus, because of its lack of source material content, ‘Yesterday wo Utatte’ will probably never return with another installment despite being among the most popular anime of this season. In an unlikely scenario, if it gets renewed, we can expect ‘Sing Yesterday for Me’ Season 2 to release sometime in 2022.
