When Will The Promised Neverland Season 2 Release?

Based on the manga series by writer Kaiu Shirai and illustrator Posuka Demizu, ‘The Promised Neverland’ is a dystopian anime that revolves around a group of children living in Grace Field House, a picturesque, well-facilitated orphanage ran by the seemingly loving and kind caretaker Isabella, whom the children refer to as “Mom”. For the 11-year-old Emma, life has been perfect. However, after she and her friends discover the body of a girl who was supposed to be adopted, they begin realizing the sinister truth about the orphanage. The original manga series is massively popular, so when the news came out that CloverWorks is making an anime adaptation, it garnered considerable interest. When it came out, the first season received a widespread positive response from the critics and audiences alike, and there were already a lot of talks about a possible season 2. Here is what we have been able to find out about it.

The Promised Neverland Season 2 Release Date: When Will It Premiere?

‘The Promised Neverland’ season 1 premiered on Netflix on September 1, 2020, exclusively for the viewers in the US, Canada, and Latin America. It is available with original Japanese audio and English subtitles as well as with English dubbing. The 12-episode season 1 originally aired on Fuji TV between January 11, 2019, and April 13, 2019.

In March 2019, the news about the production of ‘The Promised Neverland’ season 2 was made public in the 2019 Weekly Shonen Jump Issue No. 18. It was supposed to be released in October 2020. But because of the COVID outbreak, ‘The Promised Neverland’ season 2 will now release sometime in January 2021.

The Promised Neverland Season 2 Cast: Who Is in It?

Emma is voiced by Sumire Morohoshi in Japanese and Erica Mendez in English. Norman, the leader of the children because of his genius-level tactical intellect, is voiced by Maaya Uchida (Japanese) and Jeannie Tirado (English). Mariya Ise (Japanese) and Laura Stahl (English) provide the voice for Ray, the intellectual and skeptic of the group.

Aside from the three protagonists, the cast of ‘The Promised Neverland’ includes 34 other children with distinctive personalities. Some of the most prominent among them are Don (voiced by Shinei Ueki in Japanese and Cedric Williams in English), Gilda (Lynn in Japanese and Ryan Bartley in English), and Phil (Hiyori Kono in Japanese and Amber Connor in English). Yūko Kaida (Japanese) and Laura Post (English) lend their voices to Isabella, the caretaker, while Sister Krone, the new helper at the orphanage, is voiced by Nao Fujita (Japanese) and Rebeka Thomas (English).

Most members of the main cast are slated to return in season 2, save for Fujita and Thomas, as Krone was killed in the 10th episode of season 1.

The Promised Neverland Season 2 Plot: What Is It about?

‘The Promised Neverland’ is set in the year 2045 and tells the story of 38 children residing in an orphanage, where they are looked after by a woman they call “Mom”. However, hidden behind the serene and utopian façade, the orphanage is a plantation for harvesting human meat for the demons. The first season adapted chapters 1 to 37 of the manga. In the season finale, all the children who are 5 and above manage to escape Grace Field House, but those who are 4 and below are left back there with Isabella.

In the next season, we are going to find out what happened to Norman. Several demons, including the friendly Mujika and Sonju, might be introduced in the next season. If the first season focuses on ‘The Introduction Arc’ and the ‘Jailbreak Arc’ of the manga, then it’s logical to conclude that season 2 will explore the next one in the sequence, the ‘Promised Forest Arc’, and the one that comes after, the ‘Search for Minerva Arc’.
