H.G. Wells’ science fiction works have captured the imagination of countless generations over the years. ‘The Invisible Man’ is one truly horrifying tale that has been adapted on the screen on multiple occasions, like the 1993 movie of the same title. The 1993 movie spawned several sequels and spin-offs and was rebooted with the 2020 film bearing the same name as it and the original novel. The 2020 movie is set in San Francisco and feels extremely topical.
The makers of the adaptation have done a great job at making the 2020 film not feel an outdated version of a story from decades ago. To be more specific, the movie is one that feels at home amidst the MeToo movement and follows a talented scientist, Cecilia Kass. Cecilia is depicted to be in a violent relationship with an affluent man who has to literally escape her partner and go into hiding with her sister and childhood friend’s aid. However, her (ex-)partner commits suicide, leaving a sizeable portion of his wealth in her name. Much to her distress, she soon begins to witness strange events as it turns out her ex has become invisible and is haunting her.
Elisabeth Moss plays the role of Cecilia and being the talented actress that she is, nails the character to perfection. Moss has appeared on acclaimed television series like ‘Mad Men,’ ‘The West Wing’ and ‘The Handmaid’s Tale.’ Apart from Moss, Oliver Jackson-Cohen is also a part of the movie’s cast. The English actor plays the role of Cecilia’s abusive partner who later becomes invisible and haunts her.
The Invisible Man Filming Locations
Many of you might be wondering where was ‘The Invisible Man’ filmed. A house that appears in the film has grabbed the attention of several viewers in particular. So, where is this house located? Sydney, Australia
‘The Invisible Man’ has been entirely filmed in Australia. The filmmakers have depicted Australian locations as those in San Francisco and seem to have done an authentic job at it.

To begin with, most of the filming for the movie was carried out at Fox Studios Australia on Driver Avenue, Moore Park in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The productional facility sprawls over 32 acres and boasts of eight sound stages and close to 60 independent businesses. Movies like ‘The Matrix’ and ‘Superman Returns’ have been filmed here.
Furthermore, filming was also carried out in the Barangaroo suburb of Sydney. Other than that, the movie’s crew also traveled to Potts Point in Central Sydney. The area is known for its bustling nightlife and lively cafes.
Other than that, “the heart of the city,” Martin Place also served as a filming location for the movie. The pedestrian mall is iconic in Australia and has attracted several high-end filming productions in the past.

As you can see from the above post, the scene filmed at Martin’s Place was a tall order, in terms of the effort that went into its shooting. Apparently, hundreds of extras were used to film the scene and the entire street was blocked for it. The entire street was made to look like Downtown San Francisco.
Kiama and Gerringong, New South Wales, Australia
One hundred and twenty kilometers south of Sydney is the coastal town of Kiama. The town is a major tourist destination and also served as one of the filming locations for ‘The Invisible Man.’ A few miles away from Kiama is another town called Gerringong where filming was also carried out.
In order to replicate San Francisco streets, the crew of ‘The Invisible Man’ filmed several scenes in the hillier areas of Kiama. Now, let us talk about that magnificent house which appears in the movie.
The splendid, ultra-modern and super-luxurious house seen in ‘The Invisible Man’ is actually located in Gerringong. The property is known as the Headland House. The property which it is on is referred to as Dovecote. The Headland House has won the Australian Home of the Year award.
The house has a heated swimming pool and a truly modern look. It provides breath-taking views, space and some spectacular interior design. It is truly a combination of style statement and comfort.
