White Dragon Season 2: Premiere Date, Cast, Trailer, Spoilers, News

White Dragon is an International crime thriller from the production company founded by The Missing creators Harry and Jack Williams. The eight-episode season premiered on September 12, 2018, as White Dragon, in Australia on BBC First and on September 10, 2018, as Strangers, on ITV. It is also available to stream on Amazon’s Prime Video.

The show follows Jonah Mulray as he deals with the death of his wife and her alleged infidelity. The ambitious thriller has the famed actor of Doctor Who and Life on Mars, John Simm, starring as the protagonist who attempts to get to the bottom of the mystery surrounding the death of his wife.

White Dragon Cast: Who is in it?

At the centre of the series is John Simm starring as Professor Jonah Mulray, the central character, who loses his wife (Megan played by Dervla Kirwan) in a car accident. Notable HongKongner actor, Anthony Wong appears in the role of David Chen. Emilia Fox stars as Sally Porter, and Katie Leung plays Lau Chen, daughter of David and Megan.

Other cast members include Tom Wu as Daniel Tsui, a detective with Hong Kong police; Tim McInnerny as Arthur Bach; and Raquel Cassidy as Rachel Hargreaves, among others. The show has enjoyed good reviews with John Simm and Anthony Wong receiving praises for their respective roles.

White Dragon Plot: What is it about?

Set in Hong Kong, the show manages to bring cultural value and diversity to our screens. The eight-episode series is filled with mystery, conspiracy, and strong characters.

Megan has a dark secret that she has managed to keep for over two decades. When she dies in a freak accident in a foreign land, her past is revealed to her husband. Jonah must uncover decades of truth to truly understand his wife. Does he mourn her untimely death or is he going to drown in his anger? He arrives in Hong Kong and is soon surrounded by a web of conspiracies. The sheltered Jonah, who has never left his home because of the fear of flying, has to navigate a foreign country and his own shortcomings. He discovers that his wife Megan has a husband and a daughter in Hong-Kong. Lau Chen must join forces with Jonah to unravel the truth about her mother, Megan. Why did Megan web such an elaborate lie? Powerful people are conspirators in her murder.

“I’ve got myself into something; The way things are I’m not sure I’m going to see you again. I wish things had been different, that we could have had more time, which you came here, that you could have seen how beautiful it is.” That is the last message Megan leaves for her husband. We feel bad for Jonah; he is a nerdy professor and not a person who likes any kind of drama. Imagine finding out your wife of three years has already been married to someone else for 20 years. He must now deal with the fact that his wife may not have loved him at all, and that he was simply a pawn in a much larger game. But her last message to him can mean that she did care about Jonah and was trying to protect him from the unknown.

If you enjoy a good conspiracy theory with the added drama of love and relationships, White Dragon is a great choice for you. The show is fast paced, well directed, and really memorable. The beauty of Hong Kong has been captured beautifully, and all actors have done a fabulous job. It is not easy to write crime thrillers. Even trickier is engaging the viewers for a long time. The short-run time of only eight-episode keeps the writing crisp and interesting. Although there are a lot of side stories for character development, the show manages to stick to the central plot. The unravelling of a great conspiracy is the USP of White Dragon. There is a lot to take from the show that most viewers will enjoy.

White Dragon Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?

Season 1, which premiered on September 18, 2018, is a complete story in itself. Jonah has uncovered all the mystery surrounding his late wife, Megan. The man responsible for her death faces the consequences of his treachery. John Simm has always been part of shows that have a short run-time, and he rarely comes back for a second season. In his own words, “this series does have a conclusion,” he said. “It would be strange to have something [else] happen to Jonah after the whole world of hell he goes through in this.”

All speculation aside, if the second season of White Dragon is in the making, it should ideally premiere in late 2019. It is possible that a whole new script may be written for Part 2 with new cast members or a prequel with the same cast. Although it doesn’t look like John Simm will return. Whatever the future might hold, the first season has us excited, and we wish the uncertainty won’t translate into a long wait. Possibly a new country and more conspiracy await us. We might find out soon enough.
